It's a sobering and important truth. There are only two kinds of people in the world: those who will live eternally in the kingdom of God, and those who will be destroyed for all time in the lake of fire. There is no third alternative. It obviously, then, is the highest priority for every person to choose the better fate. If only every person realized this urgent need and priority.

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind; and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13.47-50)

The tragedy of the ages will be the fate of the wicked. It is a needless outcome, because all who will perish could very well have avoided this horrible fate. "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3.9)

Repentance. It is such a simple but important word. Change your mind. Reorient your thinking. Humbly admit the error of the direction of your life, and pursue in faith the gracious plan of your Father through the sacrifice of His Son. Ever pursue this path and plan every day and moment of your life. It's all one has to do to avoid the fate of the lake of fire.

"Father, with humble gratitude we thank you for salvation by faith, and the fate from which you have spared us. But burden us deeply for those whose destiny is destruction. Move us in compassion to pray, speak, and act."
